Enrollment with Doves Landing School
We have a seven-step enrollment process at Dove's Landing School. It is as follows:
1. Contact school personnel to set up an in person interview at College of the Desert or at a previously agreed upon location. Contact information is listed at the bottom of this page, and emails via links on this website will also reach school staff.
2. Review the program overview during the interview and determine whether it is truly in line with your goals for your child. If the staff, and you, agree that the school is a good fit, then...
3. Sign associated documentation regarding liabilities and agreements associated with the school and zoo.
4. Provide reliable transportation for your student to and from College of the Desert and Desert Springs Church.
5. Order uniforms at dlsuniforms.com (Link also at the top of each page of this website)
6. Attend an orientation meeting (this can be an interview for late enrollments), and be aware that live orientations/announcements may occur at the end of any given school day. We will do our utmost to warn of coming orientations but may do announcements on-the-fly. This is due to the dynamic nature of our school, and the privilege of using facilities at The Living Desert as a partnership program. This will feel very different from most school settings. It usually takes 6 to 9 weeks to feel comfortable with our award winning Abraham Lincoln style field study program. Please feel free to ask questions about the program as you have them arise, especially during this transition time period.
7. Bear in mind that this school is donation based... This means that though we have expenses in the same way any school would, we do not have funding from any source outside of donations, besides grants for which we do regularly apply. An advantage of this is autonomy, another is the ability to serve students from a background such that they would otherwise be unable to attend. Another benefit, on the flip side, is that to parents or family with means (or anyone for that matter), donations are tax deductible. Please be willing to consider reaching out to any contacts you know who would be able and willing to make a tax deductible donation, be it small or large.
